Mnemosyne Biosciences Ltd is founded on the idea that memory, method, and understanding are inseparable from scientific progress. The name Mnemosyne, the personification of memory in Greek mythology and mother of the Muses, reflects a long-standing interest in how knowledge is created, preserved, and revisited over time. This idea has been present from the outset: the domain mnemosyne.co.uk was first registered on 26 February 2007, marking an early expression of what would later become the company.

Who are we?
Mnemosyne is a small team of bioinformatics professionals that brings thirty years of experience working across academic and industrial core facilities, sequencing technology companies, and bioinformatics service units. We are developing systems for the rational analysis and exploration of nucleic-acid sequencing data. Through the establishment of trust we are building a platform where approved primary data, verified analysis software, and best-practise bioinformatics workflows together move science forwards.
What are we offering?
Our aim is to shorten the path from sequence data to knowledge for sequencing units, core facilities, and bioinformatics service providers. Through Synoptikon we are turning contemporary, repeatable nucleic-acid sequence analysis into a product. Through consultancy we support the more bespoke and operationally specific work that sits beyond our product’s standard scope.
Platform and consultancy
Synoptikon is the product that we develop and commercialise. We do not provide bioinformatics services ourselves but through consultancy agreements we can customise and adapt Synoptikon to your needs.
On-premise and HPC-aware
Our products are developed primarily for institutions where cloud computing is unwelcome and existing HPC investment should be properly used. Synoptikon uses Kubernetes; we can do cloud too.
Approachable and domain-competent
We have worked in the DNA-sequencing space since acrylamide slab-gels. We have supported projects ranging from human whole genome cohort sequencing to plant marker development. We love transcriptomes and spatial biology.
