Frequently Asked Questions

Things that I would have written within the webpages - but there is too much information already.

How much does Synoptikon cost?

Synoptikon may be licensed

Which flavour of Linux does Synoptikon require?

The phoreus component of the Synoptikon packages bioinformatics software into RPM packages - these are deployed through docker containers that are usually deployed based on AlmaLinux. Synoptikon installers are available for macOS and as RPM packages intended for the RedHat Linux distribition.

Is there a free version of the Synoptikon?

Offering a free version of the software would be great but we need to pay salaries, hosting, and taxes. It is our intention to make the software source available once the business becomes self-sustaining.

What bioinformatics workflow engine do you support?

We are developing our own DSL for bioinformatics workflows. In the meantime we support a subset of the Nextflow DSL - but we do not use the Nextflow software. The Synoptikon can run most nf-core and EPI2ME Labs workflows.

This sounds cool but I am not working in the genomics space

The Synoptikon provides a framework for anchoring primary experimental data in an ObjectStore and for defining bioinformatics workflows based on trusted software components. Nothing is fundamentally bound to the genome or transcriptome - if you have proteomics, metabolomics, imaging, or other large scale biological datasets the platform could still be useful. Please get in contact with us and we can explore how we might be able to help.
